We had an awesome week in 4P this week, highlighted by our writing share with the other 4th grade classes. Students are finished (or are about to finish) their realistic fiction stories and we will start our new writing unit (personal essays) next week. Here are a few updates in other areas:
In math, we have begun our new math unit on metric unit conversions. Students are learning how to convert meters to kilometers, centimeters to meters and kilograms to grams. Everyone is doing a great job.
We are finishing up our reading unit next week. We are finishing our mentor read-aloud text, The Tiger Rising, today and will practice answering questions about a shared text next week before we take our summative assessment next week on a shared text. Students will be asked to answer the following questions about a shared text:
Don't forget to sign up for conferences next week if you have done so already. Thursday (10/24) and Friday (10/25) are half days. Students will dismissed at 10:55 right before the usual lunch period.
We had a wonderful week of learning in 4P this week. Our class got to lead the school in the Pledge of Allegiance all week!
A few highlights are as follows:
We are finishing up module 1 in math. We completed a review of addition and subtraction strategies today and will complete a study guide for the entire module on Monday, followed by the summative assessment on Tuesday. We will start module 2 (metric unit conversions) on Wednesday.
We are also finishing up our rough drafts of our realistic fiction stories and will be completing our final drafts next week in preparation for our share on Thursday, October 17th.
In reading, we are continuing to learn strategies on how to analyze characters in our stories and will begin to analyze theme next week. Everyone is doing a great job! I'm impressed with how well students are keeping up with their reading logs and writing about their characters.
In science, we finished up our unit on electricity and have started the new unit on magnetism. We also took a quiz on electrical circuits which will graded and returned next week.

All of a sudden its October! And chilly outside...that hasn't stopped us from having an awesome week of learning and fun in 4P!
A few updates:
We are moving quickly through the remainder of Module 1 in math....we will likely finish it up by the end of next week and have our summative assessment some time the week after. Everyone is doing a great job! This week, we practiced 4-6 digit addition and subtraction strategies including one and two-step word problems.
We will have our rough drafts of our realistic fiction stories finished next week, then move on to our final drafts. We will be celebrating the end of the unit with an all 4th grade share on Friday, October 18th.
In reading, we are continuing to study character change and building ideas about characters by noticing images, traits or objects the author repeats. Next week, we will practice writing about character change and theme using a shared text.
We are finishing up our mini unit on electric circuits in science and will take a brief assessment on what we've learned sometime next week. Then on to magnetism!
