4th grade has officially begun! I've really enjoyed the first few days with this bunch of students! We have spent the majority of our time getting to know each other through activities and games and also understanding and practicing our routines in the classroom. Everyone is doing a fabulous job! All students received a planner which we took some time to explore....they discovered many great resources in the planner which they can use day to day. Please try to make sure your student brings their planner back to school so they can use it in class as a resource. We also voted on our first read aloud which we began reading last week, "Fourth Grade Rats" by Jerry Spinelli.
Next we will begin our first reading, writing and math units, beginning with pre tests so we can see where all the students are in their learning. On Tuesday, Mr. Barnard (our new band teacher) and Ms. Shannon (our orchestra teacher) will introduce everyone to all of the instruments they can learn to play starting in 4th grade. The band and orchestra programs in D97 and at the high school are incredible and I encourage everyone to consider giving it a try! Also, on Thursday, we will be getting our IPads! We will be teaching the students the do's and don'ts of IPad use and they will begin using them in class starting the week of September 9th. Our class will be visiting the Hatch Patch to harvest vegetables on Thursday, September 12th from 2-2:45pm. Ms. Guido is asking for each class to have 3 parent volunteers to help out....please consider joining us! Look for an email from Ms. Guido if you want to sign up.
Lastly, curriculum night is scheduled for Wednesday, September 11th from 6-7pm. I hope to see everyone there!
