Its hard to believe that it's nearly the end of the school year! On Monday, April 29th, Hatch will celebrate the end of the year with the ABC countdown. Monday is Athletic Day! We've been pretty busy in 4P....here are some highlights: Reading Workshop: We finished up our American Revolution unit with a debate between Patriots and Loyalists as to whether or the colonies should split with Britain. Students made hats and signs and everyone did an amazing job. Special shout to our Loyalist speakers (Persephone, Evelyn and Cora) and our Patriot speakers (Isla N. and Mabel). Their speeches were fantastic! We will begin our last reading unit of year on Monday (Historical Fiction). Writing Workshop: Students are finishing up their books about the American Revolution....next week we will begin our historical fiction writing project. Math: We are flying through Module 4 which focuses on Geometry concepts. We will likely finish the unit late next week then move on to Module 6 which focuses on decimal fractions. Everyone is doing a great job! Science: Our class has been learning about earth science concepts with Mr. Zand. This science rotation will end this coming week and they will then go to Ms. Awe for the final three weeks of the school year to learn life science concepts using meal worms. This is a great opportunity for students to travel between classrooms and learn from a different homeroom teacher. Hubbard Street Dance: Our Hubbard Street Dance residency is in full swing. Students are learning how to move their bodies in a purposeful way in space. Next week they will begin crafting their own unique dances in groups. Our final performance will be on Thursday, May 30th in the auditorium. More details will be sent out over the next couple of weeks. Upcoming Field Trips: As a reminder, we have lots of fun activities coming up in May: Tuesday, May 7th: Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio tour. Please provide permission for your child here if you have not done so already. I will be finalizing the list of chaperones this week and will let you know if you've been selected. Wednesday, May 15th: Field trip to Naper Settlement. Please provide permission for your child here if you have not done so already. Tuesday, May 28th: 4th Grade End of Year Celebration at Circle Lanes. Please provide permission for your child here if you have not done so already. Check out of our students in action!
